Recently received this email from SPOC:

Assalamualaikum dan salam sejahtera,

To all facilitators of Infosys Foundation Program and JavaStream,

Thank you for the support that you have given to the program and because of your willingness to contribute to this program, UTeM is now given the honour to conduct the third batch of 100 students from all over Malaysia for the Infosys program.

As such, UTeM will be presenting our experiences and students statistics to the other IPTAs and IPTSs during a conclave soon. I need your help in gathering information about the students, classes, subjects taught, performances, etc so that the correct information can be presented.

Please feel free to state your comments as well. Thank you very much.

If everything goes smoothly, the program will start on 2nd May to 26 June 2009 (tentatively). 100 ICT graduates from IPTA/IPTS will be selected to undergo this program.

I wish the organizers (MOHE,MDeC,UTeM) all the best and good luck! Hope they will be able to conduct the program as the budget for it is very high.

The first Lightning Talk was done on 13 Jan 2009.
3 interesting topics were discussed.
It was quite disappointing since only few turned up.
But i got no time giving up just like that.
I promoted more and also made announcement on eftmk for second week.
The second Lightning Talk was conducted successfully on 20 Jan 2009.
This time it's much better as more participants turned up.
2 topics was presented.

I decided to make it a weekly program and here's the details:

Date: Every Tuesday
Time:1.30pm-1.55pm
Venue: FTMK Executive Lab, 4th floor, Academic Building.

Nama saya Hassan dan sekarang masih menuntut di UTeM , pelajar tahun 3 diploma in IT (DIT).

Saya nak mintak pendapat dari pelajar FTMK sendiri tentang satu satu sesi / perjumpaan . Idea saya adalah ingin buat satu perjumpaan / meetup untuk student share among themselves. Topic mostly berkaitan dengan IT . Tujuan dia nak bagi ada culture of sharing antara student . Saya tak nak yang datang hanya geek / skema / pandai sahaja . Target meetup ini nak bagi student yang betul – betul nak belajar benda yang baru dari student lain . Mungkin ada yang dah bosan dengan cara formal belajar (which is going to lecture .. lepas tu menguap .. ) . Kan bagus kalau kita belajar sesame student . Mungkin student yang tahu lebih pasal programming boleh share pasal programming , dan yang tahu pasal blogging atau designing pon boleh jugak share dan vice versa .

Some of the ideas ..

* 15 minutes once in a week (tak nak lama sebab korang pon ada keje nak buat )
* It must be weekdays (jarang ada student yang sanggup nak spend masa datang kt cubic on weekends especially bebudak UTeM sendiri )
* IT related ( php , blogging , designing , flash , database , techniques , pengalaman LI , website favourite korang , joomla , ubuntu)
* Every student boleh bagi talk
* Cara penyampaian adalah terpulang . Nak buat slide show boleh .. nak cakap kt depan jer boleh .. atau demo sekali .. lagi bagus ..
* Setiap meetup hopefully dapat 3 speakers so setiap meetup kita dapat 3 tajuk yang berbeza
* Ada q/a session . kalau x faham pasal topic tu .. atau topic tu terlalu teknikal , boleh jer Tanya .
* Participate ! Tujuan session ini tak nak ada one way communication . speaker cakap dan student dengar . it s more like two way conversation .. mase tgh present tuh .. just angkat tangan dan cakap .
* Target group .. less than 10 people . Sebab mentaliti bebudak UTeM memang camtuh . Apa – apa event yang dibuat mesti tak dapat sambutan .. Tapi let say you guys prove me wrong .. mane tau lebih dari 40 orang .. saya rasa FTMK x kedekut nak bagi tempat yang lagi luas .
* err .. kalau lecturer / student master / student fakulti lain nak join pon boleh . lagi ramai lagi bagus .
* Lastly .. sharing is caring .

Here are more information about the plan:

• The activity is planned to get started by next Tuesday 13-jan-2009
• Time: 1.40pm sharp to 1.55pm sharp! (15 minutes only)
• Venue suggested is bilik kuliah PPS, 4th floor
• Targeting around 10-20 participants as starting
• Planned as weekly activity

Well, everything is still under planning, I'll update the status of this activity after getting approved from faculty dean.

So guys(UTeM Students), any one interested to be a speaker? Just share your knowledge/experiences with others. It can be anything. May be you did some mistakes when taking any subjects or during Industrial Training, lets share it, at least others wouldn't do the same mistake!
